The different articles of this issue analyse international cooperation and the extent to which it creates a space of encounter, of influence, of confrontation and even of competition between different police systems characterized by individual specificities. Being the instruments par excellence of internal sovereignty, these systems have developed autonomously, and sometimes even in a spirit of distrust towards foreign experiences, throughout history. Coming from very diverse backgrounds, the authors (both academics and practicians) examine to what extent this cooperation transforms idiosyncratic police systems. They also try to analyse what the consequences of these transformations might be.
